Bulga Coal is mining the coal reserves from the Bulga and Southern Extension pits. In 2016 Bulga Open Cut commenced mining the East Pit, which mines the shallow coal located under the old Broke Road. Bulga Coal operates an electric rope shovel, 8 excavators and approximately 50 haul trucks . Mining involves the following general sequence:
Open-pit, open-cast or open cut mining is a surface mining technique of extracting rock or minerals from the earth by their removal from an open pit or borrow.. This form of mining differs from extractive methods that require tunnelling into the earth, such as long wall mining.Open-pit mines are used when deposits of commercially useful ore or rocks are found near the surface.
"The Open Cut" is an easily viewable example of a surface mine in the Black Hills. It was the original site of the Homestake gold mine, which during its lifespan operated as the most productive gold mine in North America. Open-cut gets its name because that's exactly what this type of mining looks like, a big open pit. This type of mining allows for the extraction of minerals that aren't very far under the surface ...
Various factors must be taken into account in open-cut (surface) mining to ensure that materials are transported efficiently and both miners and materials are protected. The fundamental requirements to be met in open-cut (surface) mining include protecting mobile plant machinery against collisions, ensuring that vehicles are loaded and unloaded safely, and managing the loading of vehicles used ...

Open Cut Mining There are many differences between open cut and underground mining. When minerals and deposits are found close to the surface and spread across a large distance, the best way to mine is to use the open cut mining method.
The definition of a open pit mine is "an excavation or cut made at the surface of the ground for the purpose of extracting ore and which is open to the surface for the duration of the mine's life." Built by the Queensland government in the early 1920s, the 15 head battery with a gas engine and two generators is still standing at the site of the current mining operation. It has been listed for preservation by the National Trust. The mine was converted to open cut in 1921 and mining continued until 1945 when the mine closed down.
Open pit mining. Open pit mining, where material is excavated from an open pit, is one of the most common forms of mining for strategic minerals. This type of mining is particularly damaging to the environment because strategic minerals are often only available in small concentrations, which increases the amount of ore needed to be mined.
Open-pit mining is one of the most commonly used techniques to extract minerals from the Earth. The process, which is also known as "opencast mining," "open-cut mining" and "strip mining," is used when deposits are located close to the surface, and entails digging or blasting from the ground level to extract ore. • Related content: [INFOGRAPHIC] Top 10 largest diamonds ever ...
